Digitizing with the RE 1000

Using the RE 1000 system we can take an existing part and create 3-d part data in CAD program. This system simultaneously digitizes both the external and the internal geometry of a part. Because of this and the fact that the system runs without operator intervention during the digitizing process, our customers are getting better data, timing and pricing over laser digitizers, X-rays and touch probes.

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS

PartEncaseFly-cutOptical-scan
A given part is encased in a special epoxy that serves the purposes of holding the part while it is scanned, keeping the part edges from burring and giving a color contrast between the part and the resin. It is then mounted on an aluminum base and secured to the CGI machine's table. The system uses an industrial grade fly cutter to accurately machine away ultra thin layers of the part. After each layer is machined away the RE 1000 uses an optical scanner to capture the newly exposed surface of the encased part.

Point Cloud

A 3-d bitmap is created from the scanned data. The processing software creates points at the intersections of the encase-it epoxy and the part on each scanned Z-plane, creating a point cloud. This data can then be output in the following formats: iges, stl, sdrc, ascii, dxf, ibl, iso g-code and vda.
